Piani di Bobbio Race Training 16-24 February 2019

We are delighted to be returning to Piani di Bobbio for another race training camp during the February 2019 half term.

Piani di Bobbio

Race training will take place on Monday 18 February – Saturday 23 February.

You can choose to arrive on either the Saturday (giving you a day to get your ski legs) or Sunday and leave the following Saturday after training or Sunday.

We will be staying at a ‘refuge’ on the mountain   -Refuge Ratti-Cassin Refugio Ratti-Cassin  where we stayed in 2018.  Its accessible by cable car and is at 1600m.

Training

Training will consist of gate training 9.30 to 12.30 , with qualified coaches and 13.30 to 16.30 free skiing and skills with qualified coaches ( maximum of  8 athletes per coach ).

There is the option to join for training only if you don’t want to stay at the Ratti.  To book a place,  with a £25 deposit for each trainee,  reserve a place here:

Travel

You will need to organise your own travel.

The nearest airport is Milan Linate and the transfer time is about 45 minutes.   Milan Bergamo (1 hour),  Malpensa (1 hour 15 minutes) and Verona  (2 hours) are also close.  If a number of people are flying,  we can help with organising putting people in touch with each for arranging group transfers.  If you are flying,  there may be someone who can take your skis for you by car/van,  so please check before paying for ski luggage secretary@skisasa.co.uk.

If you decide to drive,  its about 16 hours from the UK and an easy drive either through France or via Switzerland.  Snow chains are a legal requirement and snow tyres are recommended.

We cannot drive up to the refuge,  but there is parking available near the cable car (our mode of transport to get to the refuge) at €3 per day.

Ski Lessons/Ski Passes

We will get a group discount on ski passes.  If you are arriving at the resort by lunchtime,  its worth buying a ski pass that covers that day as you need to pay for a cable car trip up anyway.

Fabrizio can organise some great instruction for you,  either group or private depending on your preference.    We can’t provide prices at this stage but private lessons were approximately €35 per hour in 2018.

Getting to your Accommodation

The cable car runs from 8:00 – 17:00 (possibly later at the weekends depending on the number of day trippers wanting to get down the mountain),  so when arranging your transport,  please make sure that you arrive at Piani between these times.

Once you get up to the plateau,  luggage can be transported to the refuge after 16:30 (and before 08:00 for your return).  The Ratti is close enough to the cable car to carry smaller items over and the large items can be left at the cable car until the skid can collect them

Off-Site Accommodation

You can stay off-site and join the the training each day.  If booking independently,  you can stay on the plateau or if you want to stay at the bottom, it is recommended that you stay with in 1.5 km from the cable car and in the town of Barzio.

If you want to stay at the plateau and want more details about accommodation options,  please email

secretary@skisasa.co.uk

Prices

Prices are still approximate,  but we anticipate that half board accommodation (arrival Sunday 17 February,  departure Sunday 24 February 2019 after breakfast):

Adult: £480

Child: £300

Although the Ratti’s website has different prices for classic and superior rooms,  we are being charged a single room price.  Feedback from the last trip was that there wasn’t an appreciable difference between them.

6 day lift passes will be approximately:

Adult £140

Child £80

Training costs will depend on the number of trainees,  but an estimate for 6 days training is:

£150

Non race training will be available through the ski school (which we will organise if there is interest).

So,  total estimated cost for a non racing adult is £620 and £530 for a racing child.

For ease,  we will charge for everything in GBP.  SASA is not making a profit from this trip,  but we have done a straight EUR to GBP conversion on prices for now.  Any excess will be offset purchasing items just prior or on the trip,  such as ski passes.

If you would like to book places,  please reserve a room here:

Room Booking

If you can’t find a room for your party size,  there is no under occupancy charge,  so its OK to have a spare bed in a room.

Please note that the bunk beds in Barbisino and Segantini are SMALL (only 140cm long),  so not suitable for older children or adults.  We would also recommend NOT to have more than 4 people in Jrishanka as its very cosy!!!

Please note that reserving a room DOES NOT GUARANTEE it.  We have a hold on rooms for a few days,  but they may decide to take other bookings in the meantime.

In order to secure your room,  please pay a deposit to SASA for each person,  using your surname and ‘Piani’ as the reference:

Adult £225

Child £150

(The SASA bank account details are in the invoice which will be produced when you complete the checkout).

We will need to have received deposits in order to progress a booking,  but the deposit is refundable if you find that you can’t travel.  We aim to pay the deposits on the reserved rooms by the end of May at the latest.

If you reserve a room,  but we don’t receive a deposit (or hear from you about payment),  we will release the room after 5 days.    This is to ensure that we can offer any spare rooms to other members.
