Race Training

There are a number of training options available for race training.

SASA Club Session – Tuesday Nights

Tuesdays, 16:45 to 17:45 (term time)

SASA provides its own club-run children’s training sessions (improver sessions and sessions providing an introduction to race training) every Tuesday at 16:45 during term time at Southampton Alpine Centre.   We also arrange regular beginner lessons as the need arises.

  • Format:  Training will be organised into groups;  improver group(s) and an advanced/race training intro group. There will also still be the periodic beginner classes, possibly including the option of a course for parents.
  • Price:    Sessions will  cost £7.00 per head for members and £8.00 per head for guests / trial members.

We need an average turnout of 10 per group to cover our costs so if any of you are in a position to pay half-termly, it would be a great help but we would still rather see the kids come sometimes than not at all.

Newcomers are always welcome, please contact Lesley Gash for more information:  01962 711178

SASA Training Days

The club runs training days a couple of times a year,  usually in spring and early autumn to coincide with the races that SASA organises.  These take place at the Alpine Centre and run from approximately 09:30 – 16:00.  Training is both on and off hill,  to give trainees a taster of importance of non skiing fitness to help improve their skiing.   We will send details of upcoming training days out to all members.  We will also advertise dates and details in the News section of the website and on our Facebook page.

Race Training Camp – Landgraaf

SnowWorld is Europe’s largest indoor ski centre,  with five slopes and seven lifts, including the race slope which is over 500 metres long.  We stay at the on  site hotel,  which makes getting to training very easy but it also allows trainees and parents to get to know each other better.    Landgraaf is in the Netherlands,  about three hours drive from Calais.

The race camp is normally held during the October half term,  arriving on Monday lunchtime and leaving on Friday after lunch.  There are morning and afternoon ski coaching sessions and off-slope training sessions as well.    Many families make a holiday of it,  but we can accept unaccompanied trainees,  if suitable transport can be arranged for them.

Training is not just for the junior members of the family,  in 2016,  nine ‘Masters’ trained with the junior squad.  Most of the Masters had no prior racing experience,  so if you fancy trying it out but are unsure as to whether to take the plunge,  have a word with one of the committee or any of the racers from 2016.

More details for the 2017 camp can be found on our  Landgraaf Training 2017 page
